We got a new brief for the Time Based Media module where we have to create something to go on a DVD. Be it a trailer, promotional video, film etc. In the end it will be in the output of a DVD, so a DVD menu would need to be designed and created.
Brief
Produce a short film between 1 and 2 minutes in length. The film can be based on a theme of your choice. Example themes might be:
Music, Time, Happiness, Emotion, Interests, Colour, Shape, Movement, Environment, Special Effects, Culture, Animation, Speed, Sound.
1. Produce a storyboard that reflects the theme of your film. This will clearly illustrate both visual and audio content. Audio content may include background music, incidental music, character dialogue, voice-over, and any other appropriate sounds. You may include still photography to visualise the storyboard. This is to be supplemented with a shoot requirement list.
2. Shoot footage in 1 day; you will be allotted a specific day during semester 2 tutorials. You CANNOT shoot more than 20 minutes of raw digital video.
3. Transfer raw digital video onto a computer. This will be captured onto the machines in laboratory W202 using either USB or Firewire connection.
4. Edit digital video and audio content using available software.
5. Author video on a DVD ensuring its is => 60 seconds AND =< 120 seconds in length.
6. Produce a small report explaining the technological issues involved in producing the film; you should consider capturing, manipulating, storing, rendering and transmitting digital video. Discuss how DVD facilitates cross-platform distribution. Include a critical evaluation of your film. During the evaluation discuss how closely it reflects the original plan and storyboard and reflect upon any anomalies. If you were given more time, discuss what you would have done differently and how this might improve the finished film.
I’m planning to film and make an opening sequence for a horror movie along with a couple of friends. One is thinking of doing a trailer so hopefully it’ll all work out!
